General Changes
-
Attachment Viewer
- Agencies can now view attachments (documents, images, and other supported file types) directly within PSS, without downloading the file first. Selecting an attachment opens it in a pop-up window. This keeps sensitive evidence in PSS instead of scattered across user devices. The viewer covers PowerAction, PowerIA (Cases, Employee Merit/Conduct), Complaints/Compliments (Citizen, Internal, Public Portal), and PowerVitals (Check-Ins).
- If a file cannot display, for example, because a file type was intentionally renamed to bypass upload restrictions, the pop-up window shows an error message describing the issue.
- Chrome browsers do not support viewing all file types.
- Expanded and standardized supported file types so users can upload, view and consistently download the same set of file types across every attachment location in PSS, rather than varying by module.
- New permission: Download Attachments
- A new permission controls who can download an attachment versus only view it. We added this separately to each module so agencies can control download access by record type:
- IA Cases
- Complaints/Compliments
- PowerAction reports (by template type)
- PowerVitals Check-Ins
- Employee Merit/Conduct
- When a role has this permission, users can download attachments in addition to viewing them. Without it, users can only view attachments but not download.
- Defaults on rollout: the permission is off by default on any newly created role going forward. For existing roles, it was turned on automatically only where that role already had the related edit/manage permission for that module. For example, Edit cases for IA Cases, Review and approve all complaints for Complaints, Review and assign for PowerAction, Manage Check-Ins for PowerVitals, View and Create Employee Reports for Merit/Conduct). Roles without that underlying permission were left off.
- Agency admins should review Admin > Roles after this release to confirm download access lines up with each role's intended level of access.
- A new permission controls who can download an attachment versus only view it. We added this separately to each module so agencies can control download access by record type:
- File size limits
- Corrected upload size validation across IA Cases, Complaints, the Public Complaint Portal, and Vitals so each now enforces the agency's configured maximum file size, with warning messages that reflect the correct limit.
- Removed the Character Limit in text boxes throughout PowerIA. You can now add as much text as necessary to text boxes throughout this application.
