Support for California Workplace Know Your Rights Act (SB 294)
California has introduced the “Workplace Know Your Rights Act” (SB 294) on 1/1/2026 and goes into effect on 03/30/2026. One of the elements of this piece of legislation requires employers to give employees a way to designate which emergency contacts should be contacted if the employee is either arrested or detained. Any employer not found in compliance is subject to a fine of $500 per employee per day (Capped at $10,000 per employee). To address this requirement, a new field has been added to the “Emergency Contact” that allows you to designate if that emergency contact should be contacted in case the employee is arrested or detained.

This field will only show up if the employee's current home address is in California. By default the value of this field is set to “No”.
