I have updated to the new author 3.0. I was able to edit a document through it earlier. It opened the document in word and I was able to save the revision on PowerDMS. Now, when I try to edit a document it only opens it as a PDF and will not allow me to edit it. Any help would be appreciated.

Same issue here - worked great at first and now it opens only as a PDF.

I would first confirm that you are actually running on 3.0 .  You will go to your task bar, right click on the PowerDMS symbol then see what version it says.

If if it is anything but 3.0 I would suggest uninstalling then reinstalling with 3.0 and/or reaching out to our bomb.com support folks support@powerdms.com or 888-959-5158. Don’t forget about the trusty re-boot after the uninstall and reinstall.

I have the same issue.  My system worked fine until the upgrade.  Now sometimes opens on word and sometimes on PDF.  My issue is that I make the changes to the document, but I can’t save the document.   Automatically it gives me an error “Error saving to PowerDMS”.

I contacted support and they are saying something is wrong with my computer.  How can that be?  It it seems to be working fine before the upgrade.

Anyone with the same issue, please help!

By chance did you try my suggestions above?

Oh yes.  Today we got it going, but now I have the problem that it does not “refresh” and shows the changes on the document automatically.

@Cristina.B hmmm, what do you mean?  So you are editing the document, you click on “finish editing”, and it does not refresh? is that what you mean?

that is exactly what I mean.  The changes do not reflect automatically in the document.

We have several users who have the same concern. The system is not capturing their edits and displaying them after closing the file or clicking “finish editing” on some files. Does not happen to every file.

And I am sad to say that after discussing this issue with Powerdms support service, I don’t think they know what is going on. After I reach out to them, and they don’t have an answer they want to close the ticket.

So now what?

I also cannot save changes as a regular user.  If I log into the PC as an admin user then log into PowerDMS with my login I can edit the document and save.  Thinking it might be a permissions issue I changed permissions on the Author directory to allow all permissions for everyone.  Unfortunately that made no difference and still can NOT save as an ordinary user.

@Cristina.B  and @Lisa.M39  please know I am working on finding out solutions, I am not ignoring you

@Christopher.P19 I do not know anything that would have to do with the permission setting with logging into your PC. I am not sure what you mean by the “Author directory”  or “ordinary user”

I am also having issues with PowerDMS Author 3.0 and I did try your suggestions as well. I currently am not able to edit documents. I receive the pop-up screen to sign in but the entire screen is blank. I have spoken to PowerDMS support and am currently working with my I.T. Department in trying to whitelist several domains to see if that makes a difference.

@Crystal.R15 that is interesting, I am glad you have a few tasks to be working on or I should say your IT Department is trying to work on.

I promise you all I am still working on finding out some other things to try, being new on this side of things has its disadvantages sometimes.

We've identified that the issues we're experiencing with editing documents after the 3.0 author tool upgrade are due to the file type. Specifically, documents created from a template and saved as .dotx files are incompatible with the tool.
To resolve this, we download the file, save it as a .docx format, and then re-upload it to PowerDMS.

I’m having the same issue, more specifically with an Excel document.  Edit the document as a draft and it will not reflect the changes made.  It doesn’t happen with a word document.

It sounds like you’re all experiencing a similar issue with the Author tool. My suggestion is to contact our Support Team so they can assist in troubleshooting with you. This way they can have a remote session in order to determine the cause of the problem.

They can be reach at 888-959-5158 Mon-Fri 8a-6p EST. They are wonderful people and will get you squared away!

Thanks,

Daniella

I frequently get the “Error saving to PowerDMS”.  I have 3.0 running.  I have tried de-installing and, reinstalling, rebooting. to no avail.  this seems to be happening on long documents AND short documents intermittently.  It is really frustrating, and some of my infrequent editors/users are experiencing this and telling others that PDMS does not work.  I really want this to work better!  Did not have this problem before upgrading to Author 3.0

I am having the same issue. Are there any fixes to date?

I’,m having this issue with my .docx document.

Please make sure to send these issues in to support. If they do not know about it or don’t know about it being a continuous problem they can not fix it.  I would highly suggest emailing them at support@powerdms.com or calling them at  888-959-5158 Mon-Fri 8a-6p EST. They can remote in if necessary and are willing to go the extra mile.

I know this is not an exact answer and for that I do apologize however this is the first step that needs to be made.

We are having the same issue.  Trying to work with help desk.  They told me it’s an issue with too many imbedded features in the documents.  IT tested our system and found no issues.  Found an existing document edited on 8/30 can no longer be edited, but a new one added on 9/5 can.  No change on our formatting or templates or way the files are saved in years.  Waiting to hear back after advising them of the issue and no change after they remoted in the first time.  I will update if I can get an answer, but it seems to be an issue on their end.

thank you for sharing with everyone and updating us when you get solutions that have been tried and are being worked on

It is strange. Most of the documents we are having trouble with are simple policy (.docx) documents. I wonder if this is a temporary problem caused by merging the NeoGov and PowerDMS software? Whatever it is, from what I saw in Vegas last week, believe me, it’s going to be worth the wait for the kinks to get worked out!

I am still waiting for the help desk to reply. :)
