I have updated to the new author 3.0. I was able to edit a document through it earlier. It opened the document in word and I was able to save the revision on PowerDMS. Now, when I try to edit a document it only opens it as a PDF and will not allow me to edit it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Steph,

It was nice meeting you at the roundtable in LV.  I just upgraded to 3.0.8 and continue to have the same issue as some as the others prior to .8 - attempting to edit the document only produces a PDF, but not a WORD doc (like it used two under 2.0).  Was this patch supposed to that, or is there some other guidance I’m missing?

same here, thank you for the reminder :)

It will download/open in author in the format it was uploaded.

Still haven’t gotten an update on the issue.  Had our agency IT involved and showed the error logs showing the problem was on their end and not our computers as initially told.  Was pushed up the chain, but haven’t heard back from tech support since they escalated the problem.  Going on about 2.5 months now and falling behind on work because of it.

We are experiencing the same exact issue. We have been dealing with this for about the same amount of time with no resolution. We were told it was placed as a high priority but no other communication on what will be happening next. We even tried reaching out to our Customer Success Manager who routed us back to support.

Going to guess there is still no update on this issue?  We have users that the Author connection sporadically closes on right after launching Author and changes aren’t getting saved.  Same user can edit a document and save changes, document uploads and updates in PowerDMS, goes to edit another document and save changes but doesn’t upload with changes.  Some times it works and some times it doesn’t.  Same inconsistency with 3.0.9.

let me try to find out more…. if you have a support ticket I would suggest sending support an email with your ticket number and updating the info to them. If you dont have a support ticket please send them an email support@powerdms.com

and I will work on getting some information. Thank you all for your patience on this.

We had to set up a meeting with the engineers and they are working on a prototype to figure out where the disconnect is with author. We haven’t been able to use Author since the update on August 28th.

Hi @Evan.K11  @Cristina.B  @Lisa.M39 @Christopher.P19  @Crystal.R15 @Nancy.L11 @Becky.C12  can you confirm if Author is working properly for you now? Thank you

Hi Steph,

I met with the engineers on Tuesday, and they were unable to figure out where the disconnect is with author. They will be creating a prototype and will be scheduling a second meeting to try to figure out the issue. Currently for us we are unable to use author at all as the program loads but doesn’t allow for us to log in.

I just tried and have encountered an error I hadn’t before: “Editing Access Denied. Your current account does not have the necessary permissions to edit this document.”  This is an error screen once the Author window pops up.

If you are still having author issues please be sure to 1) report it to support  support@powerdms.com 2) send me in a private message the support ticket number you have been given  Thank you.

ready for some great news…. there is a release coming out today that should fix most of the author issues!!!!!!!!!!

Wondering if there has been a solution to this issue.

Author will not reliably save the changes that I make in Word to the document in PowerDMS.  Sometimes it will, sometimes it won’t.

By reading this forum, this appears to be a common issue.  It is extremely frustrating that, before this most recent update, there were no issues.  Now, after making even the smallest edits, I have to go back and be sure that the edits saved in the document.  It is tedious, time consuming, and frustrating.

I am currently working with 3.0.14 and i am receiving the “error saving to Power DMS” message. I attempted to edit a new document and one that was created outside the program.

We experienced a similar issue. The workaround was to ensure that the document was not created from a Word template and saved as .dotx. I converted all our .dotx documents to .docx so that the author tool could open in Word and allow for editing. This solved the problem.

Interesting. Appreciate the work around info. It should be able to house and edit .dotx but if that workaround has done the trick for you that is great to know.

I know your initial reply was 2 months ago, but I am curious if you are seeing any improvement with the latest update? Ironically, we had no issues saving in word with any of the previous versions. We are now seeing this issue with the latest update that we all had to move to in March. Initially it would not save anything. I didn't have much luck with support email. They have been unresponsive and unhelpful. After several follow up emails they finally responded stating that they repaired the issue. This was not accurate. Now, it’s not consistent. Sometimes it will save. Most of the time, it won’t. I provided them with a screen recording of the issue and NOTHING. Beyond frustrating.
